As Elarios and Mannon went off to investigate the source of the thunder and lightning Prophit, Alton, and Krius stood at alert waiting their return. No sooner where the elf and halfling out of sight when the three of them heard a snort and a snarl followed by the raspy voice of a lizardman speaking the common tongue.
Man flesh, warm blood, he spoke from the darkness, the sound of his voice accompanied by the rattle of chains. Krius unmasked the hood of his trusty lantern, as the three of them crept towards the cavern where the sound was originating.
They found a dank muddy hole in the ground covered by a large metalic grate held in place by large stones. Deep down in the hole was a muscular, battle scared old lizardman chained to the wall. He let out a snarl, proclaimed himself King N'Dereg and despite his shackles challenged Krius and the rest to release him so that he may kill Krata his tribe's traitorous witch doctor.
Krius knowing he had the upper hand in any negotiations with the exiled king interrogated him about the demonic skull he and his fellows were searching for. The king claimed only that the witch doctor had found the skull and began to worship it, corrupting the other members of the tribe and turning them against King N'Dereg. Krius was convinced the old lizard king wanted only one thing, to slay the witch doctor and agreed to release him in return King N'Dereg agreed to allow Krius and his friends to have the skull and leave his lair once Krata was dead.
Back in the throne room Elarios gestured to Mannon to look behind him. As the halfling looked over his shoulder three very large, very angry blackscale lizardmen were bearing down on him. Knowing he and the ranger were no match for the beasts he communed with the spirits in his head and cast a spell of befuddlement upon one of the brutes. Tricked by Mannon's magic the thick creature began to beat on one of his fellows with his large club. Elarios let loose a pair of arrows as the third villain charged across the room.
As Krius and Prophit were freeing the old lizard King from his shackles the sound of trouble was once again heard. Alton made an exasperated comment about Mannon poking the hornets nest again as N'Dereg and Krius jumped into action and bolted off to see what trouble their friends had stirred up.
Soon Krius, Prophit, Alton, and N'Dereg joined the melee with Elarios and Mannon against the lizardmen foes. N'Dereg reluctant at first to fight members of his own tribe attempted to cow them into submission, but the brain washing magic of the witch doctor was stronger than his will and he was forced into combat with makeshift weapons made from the metallic grate that held him prisoner.
As arrow, sword, and spell felled foes draconic chanting followed by a flash of lightning and a rumble shook the room. Debris from the celling fell, cracks in the wall formed and water began to poor in covering the floor as the curtain at the far end of the great hall fell to the ground.
Behind the curtain a group of dessicated lizardmen thralls stood around a magic circle, in its center stood another lizardman completely encased in plate armor. The lizardfolk witch doctor raised his staff in the air, then plunged it downward in one final crack of thunder causing a ripple of electrical arcs to fill the circle, lifting the armor clad lizardman off the floor.
N'Dereg and Krius burst into action charging across the hall to engage the witch doctor and his minions. As they ran Alton summoned loathsome drow magic and created foul poisoned air centered on the lizard shaman and his thralls. The poisoness fumes wreaked havoc on the lizardmen killing many of them, but not the witch doctor or his newly electrified creation.
As Krius and the old lizard king were charging across the floor the to engage Krata, the old witch doctor steeped out of Altons cloud of poisons vapors, muttered a profane prayer, and the ground beneath them turned into a fetid bog grasping them in place.
Mannon, Prophit, and Elarios continued to battle the remaining blackscaled lizardmen felling them one by one as Alton prepared another spell to battle the foul lizard witch doctor and Krius and the old lizardfolk tried to free themselves from the magical muck. With the entire group distracted the armor clad lizardman, crackling with electrical energy hovered into the fray launching a series of lightning bolts at the heroes.
The bolt of vicious electrical energy launched from the eyes of the elemental lizard creature struck Krius in the chest, leapt from him to King N'Dereg, and from him to Mannon. As the remnants of electrical energy and acrid smoke dissipated Krius and the old lizard king pulled themselves from the muck and changed the witch doctor.
Another wave of drow magic obscured the battlefield, the witch doctor took advantage of the cover and slipped into a secret passage to escape the melee. King N'Dereg knowing the secrets of his lair followed the witch doctor intent on putting him to his bloody end.
As the king and the shaman slipped away the elemental form of the armor clad lizardman flew across the chamber unleashing bolts of power and unsheathing a monstrous sword. It flew into the midst of Prophit, Krius, and Mannon unleashed another devastating electrical discharge leaving the heroes reeling...
