Session 1: Heroes Gather and a Villian Falls


Introduction:

Hadler's Gap, a cross-roads village on the frontier between the northern kingdoms and the empire of Crieste, in the Hall of the Prancing Unicorn.

Mysterious dark clad halflings on opposite ends of the ale hall. A pair of motley boisterous sell-swords, feet on their table drinking the afternoon away. And a grim traveler holy symbol barely visible under in a tattered weather stained cloak.

All of them drawn to the small village over rumors of magical happenings, a rampaging ogre in the hills to the west, and the promise of much needed gold.

A meeting with the witch woman, Rygnia, a local authority figure of the village, gold is given, more is promised, potions are purchased, and the newly formed band of would be heroes set off west to the hills.

The walk to the foot hills; uneventful but the cave entrance is found.

Some planning, much sneaking, Prophit blesses, Mannon throws thunder, Alton throws shadow, the warriors shields are raised and their swords are swung, the ogre retaliates with a tree trunk sized club and down goes Grug. Guidance from the cleric, then one more blast of shadow and the ogre falls, Trogdar makes its head roll. Grug is revived with a potion. Victory.

Something is wrong. The ogre is transformed, corrupted, blackened skin, pustules, and green glowing eyes.

Into the cave. A heavy bag of coins, some moldy cheese, an ornate shield, an old lantern, many bones, garbage, and stink is found. Also, a deeper cavern.

Torches are lit and into the caverns go the heroes. Humid, hot, slick slimy ground, dripping water, echos, an enormous cavern. Flapping from above, flying blood suckers descend. Another fight with horrors, bats/bugs? Long hollow dagger like beak, grasping claws, ugly and wrong.

Swords swing, daggers pierce, claws grasp, the horrors are dropped. Time to rest.

The characters present:
Alton (Aaron), a mysterious halfling shadowcaster.
Mannon (Dave), a stealthy halfling swordsage.
Trogdar (NPC, ran by Brian) a skilled human warblade.
Grug (NPC, ran by DM) a tough 1/2 orc fighter.
Prophit (Jeff), a human cleric of battle and healing.


Rumors gathered:
* An ancient kingdom used to exist across the land
* Rumors of Tsathzar Rho; an ancient wizard who tried to contact the "outer gods" fortress destroyed eons ago
* The ogre's skin turned black with oozing pustules and glowing green eyes. Quoted as saying "Logbrag strong, not weak, not listen to voices".

Treasure found:
* 50 lb sack of mixed coins (gold, silver, copper)
* Ornate large steel shied

Foes/traps/tricks overcome:
* 1 drunk, insane ogre
* a group of 4 blood bats
* a group of 2 blood bats

Experience gained:
330 each player
